# Installation

Download [BabelEdit 5.6.0](https://www.codeandweb.com/babeledit/download.md) for Windows, macOS or Linux and install it.

BabelEdit runs on the following OS versions:

*   **Windows 10 and 11**
*   **macOS 13** and newer (Intel and Apple Silicon)
*   **Linux** (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, CentOS, Arch, Mint, etc.) as Flatpak
*   **Ubuntu 22.04** and newer as .deb package

## Windows

Download the installer [BabelEdit-5.6.0.msi](https://www.codeandweb.com/babeledit/download/5.6.0/win) file and double-click it for installation.

## macOS

Download the [BabelEdit-5.6.0.dmg](https://www.codeandweb.com/babeledit/download/5.6.0/mac) file and open it from your Downloads folder. Drag and drop BabelEdit.app into your Applications folder.

## Linux

### Debian/Ubuntu

This installation works for distros using the _apt_ package manager. Start by downloading [BabelEdit-5.6.0.deb](https://www.codeandweb.com/babeledit/download/5.6.0/linux-deb).

Open the downloads folder and click the _BabelEdit-5.6.0.deb_ to install it using the software installer.

You can also use the command line:

```
sudo apt install ./BabelEdit-5.6.0.deb
```

### All distros using Flatpak

We support other distros using the [Flatpak](https://flatpak.org/) package manager.

Download [BabelEdit-5.6.0.flatpak](https://www.codeandweb.com/babeledit/download/5.6.0/linux-flatpak) and run the following command in a terminal:

```
flatpak install BabelEdit-5.6.0.flatpak
```

If it didn't work...

You might see the following error during installation:

```
The application com.codeandweb.babeledit/x86_64/master requires the
runtime org.freedesktop.Platform/x86_64/20.08 which was not found
```

If this is the case, the Flathub repository was not added to your system. It contains the base runtime that BabelEdit needs to run.

Open a command line and run:

```
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
```

Now try again to install BabelEdit.

To run BabelEdit, you can double-click its icon or use the command line:

```
flatpak run com.codeandweb.babeledit
```
