TexturePacker Release Notes
Version 8.3.0 (2026-09-16)
Features
- New GameMaker data format that can be loaded with texturegroup_add() without a loader script
- The existing GameMaker format is now called "GameMaker (loader script)"
- Match the native look of Windows 11 and macOS 27 with the modern system styles
Fixes
- Sprite sheet splitter: sheets of solid tiles without transparency no longer lose a column to the background heuristic. The background color is only removed when the corners agree on it, and it is removed everywhere on the sheet, including pockets inside a sprite such as the space between a character's legs. The new Remove solid background checkbox below the algorithm tabs controls what the preview shows and what the saved sprites contain: switch it off to keep the background, or for tiles that happen to share a corner color. Formats without transparency such as JPEG always keep the background.
- Start on Ubuntu 26 — the Debian package now pulls in the xcb/xkb runtime libraries the app needs
- Unreal Paper2D no longer warns about a TexturePacker prefix mismatch on every import
- Japanese and Chinese: Latin words and numbers are now separated from CJK text by a space throughout the interface
- Missing AVX2 support: loading or exporting ASTC textures now reports an error instead of crashing
Version 8.2.2 (2026-09-02)
Features
- Flip textures vertically for all hardware formats — pvr, ktx, ktx2, zktx, astc, basis, dds and pkm — with the new
--flip-y option or the "Flip texture vertically" checkbox
- The zoom controls in the status bar now use icons instead of text labels
Fixes
- PVR files compressed with ETC keep their orientation flag when flipped
- Command line: .astc, .basis and .pkm sprite sheets keep the pixel format when processing .tps files
- Reopening a project restores the zoom level and does not block zooming
- Matched the shortcuts of common graphics tools: Ctrl/Cmd 0 fits the sheet in the window, Ctrl/Cmd 1 zooms to 1:1
- Quitting right after startup no longer crashes the app
Version 8.2.0 (2026-07-29)
Features
- Godot: Auto-detect animations — detected sequences are written to the .tpsheet data file, and the importer plugin (4.8.0) turns them into a ready-to-use AnimationLibrary for AnimationPlayer + Sprite2D, including trimmed sprites and multipack sheets
- Godot: The exporter is now called godot-spritesheet — godot3-spritesheet still works for existing projects and scripts
- Start screen: Godot joins the framework selection — click "Show all frameworks" for the full list
- Oversized sprites now raise the maximum texture size to 4096 automatically, unless you've set one yourself
Fixes
- Sprite sheets are only numbered when multi-pack writes more than one sheet — a single sheet no longer becomes "sheet-0.png"
- Choosing a framework without auto-multipack support no longer leaves auto-multipack enabled
- Unsupported file types are now skipped when adding sprites, instead of showing as errors
Version 8.1.0 (2026-07-16)
Features
- Auto-multipack is now the default for new projects — the sprite sheet name no longer needs an {n} placeholder
- Reveal the exported texture in Finder/Explorer after publishing
- Keep the data file name when switching to another exporter
Fixes
- Restored the sprite context menu in the sheet view
- Start screen: layout and hover refinements
Version 8.0.3 (2026-07-03)
Features
- Added an "Export sprite sheet" button to the sidebar for quick, discoverable publishing
Fixes
- Sprite sheet splitter no longer freezes when loading large images
- Floating licenses in Docker/CI: sporadic "Received GOAWAY" connection errors caused activate/deactivate to be retried after 5 seconds
Version 8.0.2 (2026-05-27)
Fixes
- Unicode file path normalization (CJK characters)
